Although Thomas Jefferson’s intentions were to be an innovative leader who built economic prosperity and avoided foreign conflicts, his lack of intervention in the Napoleonic wars, passage of the Embargo Act of 1807, and acquisition of the Louisiana Purchase 1803 ultimately left the United States in financial turmoil.
